RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 110: August 20, 2022 Sunoco Go Rewards 200 – NASCAR Xfinity Series – Watkins Glen International

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. – Kyle Larson won Saturday’s Sunoco Go Rewards 200 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International. It was his second series start of the season, following a second-place finish at Road America in July.

Larson had to start at the rear of the field because of adjustment made to his car after qualifying. While he raced forward, at the front of the field it was a two-man race between William Byron and Ty Gibbs. The duo led the 60 of the first 78 laps only yielding the top spot during pit sequencing.

It was on lap 78, of 82, when Byron and Gibbs got together in the “bus stop” portion of the course with both cars spinning off track. Larson had race to third, assumed the lead after the incident and held off A.J. Allmendinger for the win.

It was his 13th career series victory and the ninth win of the season for JR Motorsports.

Allmendinger finished second with rookie Sammy Smith third. Byron and Gibbs finished 25th and 27th respectively.
