RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 97: July 30, 2022 CARS Tour Throwback 276 – Hickory Motor Speedway

HICKORY, N.C. – The annual CARS Tour Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway is one of the headliner events for stock cars in the southeast. William Sawalich scored the victory in the 100-lap Pro Late Model feature, which was followed immediately by rain postponing the Late Model Stock race.

Sawalich was “throwing back” to Hickory Motor Speedway icon Dennis Setzer and his mid-1980s “Orange Blossom Special” car. Setzer was a master at both Hickory and Caraway Speedway, scoring numerous wins and Championships at both tracks. Appropriate because the car Sawalich drives is field by Dennis Setzer’s son, Brandon.

Sawalich won the pole position and jumped into the early lead, fending off a strong challenge from Caden Kvapil. Intensity spiked midway through as rain loomed, but in each instance Sawalich was up for the challenge and rolled to victory.

It was his third CARS Tour Pro Late Model win of the season and he was joined in victory lane by Dennis Setzer.
