2022 Race No. 44: April 24, 2022 NASCAR Cup Series – Talladega Superspeedway
Ross Chastain led one lap of the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway; it was the final lap earning him his second career NASCAR Cup Series victory. His first was only a few weeks back on the Circuit Of The Americas road course in Texas.
As is typical at Talladega, the race came down to a big pack of cars racing for the win on the final lap. Erik Jones led off turn four while Kyle Larson had a good run at Jones from second. As Jones went up the track to block, Chastain stayed on the inside and drove past for the victory. As cars bounced off each other and crashed, Austin Dillon snuck through for second with Kyle Busch finishing third.
Not only was it Chastain’s second career win but also the second for the upstart Trackhouse Racing Team.
