2022 Race No. 30 – Sunday, April 3, 2022 NASCAR Cup Series – Richmond Raceway
Denny Hamlin turned around a lackluster start to his season with a win Sunday in the Toyota Owners 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway. It was his 47th career victory, and his fourth at his home track.
Strategy was a word of the day in the race that was slowed only five times by caution, all before a 137-lap run to the finish. Ryan Blaney led the first 128 laps, and William Byron led 122 of the final 140 laps. But it was fresher tires on Hamlin’s Toyota that allowed him to pass Byron on lap 396 to get the win.
Kevin Harvick was on the same strategy as Hamlin and finished second. Bryon was able to hold on to third.
